Michael Lampi

Michael has been an ever-present voice in the human-powered boating community for a number of years, and has spent lots of time on water aboard various craft.  You can learn a lot more about his various interests via his website.

Michael writes:

I met Steve Roberts at Expo '86 to which I brought my first attempt at an amphibious bike, the Lampi Limo.

I have been a member of the IHPVA for decades, and really got into pure HPB's in the early 90's, starting with a paddlewheel canoe (Dakanu) and graduating to an all-weather Escapade and a Cadence in the years since.

Greatest distance traveled by HPB in a day: 26 miles. This was actually in a race and completed in 4.5 hours, using Bob Stuart's Lilac pedal kayak.

Greatest distance traveled by Escapade in a day: 18 miles (approx.)

When I'm not pedaling my boat I keep in shape by running up the hills in my neighborhood. The muscles used are just about the same as used in recumbent pedaling.

I'm a member of the Sound Rowers and like to race against some really fast boats, taking pictures as conditions allow.

He drives an Escapade by Nauticraft, pictured in the photos below with his son, Christopher, at the helm.  The third photo is his boat along with that of Ron McDonald, with biminis extended.
